Nerikomi Vase – A Fusion of Clay and Pattern
This handcrafted Nerikomi vase is an exploration of layered clay, movement, and imperfection. Using the Japanese Nerikomi technique, different colors of clay are carefully stacked, compressed, and sliced to create intricate patterns that run through the entire piece—not just on the surface, but deep within the material itself. Unlike glaze decoration, these patterns are woven into the clay, making each piece completely unique.
The vase carries subtle distortions in its form, embracing the organic nature of the process. The gold-infused repair lines pay homage to the philosophy of Kintsugi, highlighting the beauty of imperfection and the history each piece carries.
Design & Inspiration:
- Nerikomi Technique – A traditional Japanese method of layering colored clay to create inlaid patterns.
- Subtle Warped Form – Emphasizing the fluidity and organic movement of the piece.
- Gold-Infused Repair Lines – Inspired by Kintsugi, celebrating imperfections rather than hiding them.
- Unglazed Matte Surface – Allowing the natural beauty of the layered clay to be fully appreciated.
Functional Beauty:
- Perfect as a bud vase, sculptural piece, or standalone art object.
- Each piece is one-of-a-kind, as no two patterns can ever be replicated.
- A balance between traditional craftsmanship and modern artistry.
This vase isn’t just a vessel—it’s a story told through layers of clay, shaped by movement, and finished with the beauty of imperfection.
